Your vault, live on the shelf

Open your Obsidian vault right on the shelf. Droppy reads and writes the same Markdown files Obsidian uses, so edits in either app stay in sync without a separate Sync API or plugin.

What it does

How to use it

  1. Point Droppy at your vault: the folder that contains the hidden .obsidian directory.
  2. Choose whether to sync only a Droppy folder inside the vault, which Droppy creates, or every Markdown note in it.
  3. Edit with the same shelf editor Notes uses. Droppy reads and writes the same .md files Obsidian reads, so both apps stay in step with no plugin and no Sync subscription.

The lock screen chip shows the vault's note count and the latest note's title.

Workflows

Capture into the vault without opening it

A thought goes into the shelf widget and into the vault as a real Markdown file. Obsidian picks it up the next time you look.

Droppy for iPhone can read and search the vault you linked here. Reading only, deliberately.

Tips

  • Hidden folders like .obsidian are always excluded, so your config and plugins are never touched.
  • If macOS revokes the folder permission after a move or an update, choose the vault again to restore access.
  • Start with the Droppy folder rather than the whole vault if the vault is large.
