Stored on Cloudflare R2

File contents live on Cloudflare R2, Cloudflare's S3-compatible object storage, with the region set to auto so objects land near where they were uploaded. Metadata about each share, the random slug, filename, content type, size, upload time, and expiry time, is stored in our Supabase database. We don't run our own storage servers.

HTTPS in transit, not end-to-end encrypted

Uploads and downloads use HTTPS. Files at rest in Cloudflare R2 are encrypted server-side by Cloudflare. Droppy Cloud is not end-to-end encrypted, Cloudflare and Droppy operators can technically access file contents, though we do not scan, index, or process them. If you need confidential transfer, encrypt the files yourself before uploading or use a tool designed for that.

About Droppy Cloud

Droppy Cloud is a built-in feature of the Droppy macOS app that uploads files to a private, time-limited link you can share with anyone. The recipient opens the link in any browser to preview and download. No account is required on either end.
File contents are stored on Cloudflare R2, an S3-compatible object storage service operated by Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare R2's storage region is set to auto, meaning Cloudflare places objects near where they're uploaded.

Metadata about each share (random slug, original filename, content type, file size, upload time, expiry time) is stored in our Supabase database. We do not run our own storage servers.
Anyone with the share link can preview and download the files during the 24-hour window. Each link contains a randomly generated slug that is not guessable, not listed anywhere on this site, and not indexed by search engines (the share page is marked noindex). There is no global directory of shares. If you don't share the link, no one finds the files.
Shares automatically expire 3 days after upload. After that, the underlying objects are deleted from Cloudflare R2 and the share record is removed from our database by a scheduled cleanup job. You can also delete a share manually from the Droppy menu bar at any time before expiry.

Per share, we store: the random slug, the original filenames, content types, file sizes, the upload timestamp, the expiry timestamp, a download counter, and an opaque hash of an installation identifier (used only to enforce the 1 GB per-installation quota).

For abuse prevention and rate limiting, we temporarily log the requesting IP address against our public endpoints. We do not log file contents and we do not associate shares with email addresses, accounts, or device names.
Droppy Cloud is built for convenience-grade file sharing, not as a secure data room. Anyone with the link has access during the three-day window, and the content is not end-to-end encrypted. We do not recommend using it for legally sensitive material (medical records, financial information, regulated personal data, trade secrets, etc.). For those, encrypt the file before uploading or use a tool designed for confidential transfer.
You are responsible for what you upload and share. Sharing content you don't have rights to, or that violates applicable law, is not permitted. Cloudflare's Acceptable Use Policy applies to anything stored on R2.

We respond to valid takedown notices and may remove shares early if abuse is reported. To report a share, contact us via the support address listed in Droppy's About screen.
No. Once a share is deleted (either by the 24-hour cleanup job or manually), the objects are removed from Cloudflare R2 and there is no recovery path. Droppy Cloud is intended for short-lived links, not long-term storage. The original files on your Mac are untouched and remain wherever you stored them.
