Remove backgrounds with on-device AI directly from Droppy. After the one-time runtime setup, images are processed locally on your Mac for fast, private cutouts that keep fine detail.

How to use it

  1. Press Get once on its page in Settings, Store. That adds the Droplet and downloads the BiRefNet model in one go, and after that it never touches the network again.
  2. Drop an image in the file tray or the floating file tray, right-click it and choose Remove Background. Thunderstorm can run it on a found image too.
  3. Or put the Remove Background widget in the notch and drop images straight onto it. Each one comes back cut out on a checkerboard, ready to drag out, copy or show in Finder.
  4. The result comes back as a cutout with real transparency, so it drops straight into Keynote, Figma or a message without a white box behind it.

Workflows

Screenshot the product with Element Capture, drop the result in the file tray, remove the background, then drag the cutout into your deck. Nothing leaves the Mac at any point.

Drop a photo in, lift the subject, then use Element Capture's background and shadow controls to place it on a colour or a blurred wallpaper.

Tips

  • It processes one image at a time. Drop several on the widget and it cuts them out one after another.
  • Very large images can time out. Scale the source down first and the cutout quality barely changes, because the model works at its own resolution anyway.
  • The model is close to 1 GB and downloads when you press Get. Deleting the Droplet from its page removes the runtime and the model with it.

Right-click an image in the file tray and choose Remove Background, or drop images on the Remove Background widget.
