Droppy 16.2 beta 1: Settings and Droppy in step

The Droppy 16.2 beta 1 release card, made from real screenshots of what is new.

Since beta 5, Settings runs as its own process, so closing it gives back all the memory it used. That move left a few pages talking to a quiet copy of Droppy instead of the one you run. This beta finds every one of them.

Settings and Droppy, in step

We went through every Settings page and every droplet page, looking for anything that read or changed a copy of Droppy instead of the app on your screen. Sixteen turned up. Island glances now preview the glances your island really shows, Element Capture lists the areas you watch, and a Set hotkey link opens right on its row.

One was worse than the rest: opening an info tip could start a second notch inside Settings, which then drew itself over the real one when the Mac woke or a display changed. Settings never starts a notch of its own now.

Another quietly cleared a quick action's alias when you left its page before Droppy had sent the alias over. A field you never touched no longer writes anything.

Music and notes

The player in the notch no longer disappears when a background check comes back empty, or when a song runs past the length it reported. Droppy now waits until macOS says twice that nothing is playing before it clears the player.

The notes window now moves from anywhere on its top bar instead of only its thin outer edge. In Clipboard, pasting an item from your history no longer saves it again as a brand new copy.

Notes also stay with you when you switch desktops, and holding Control and Command lets you drag the window from anywhere inside it, text included.
