Lid Fold

Close the lid and what the screen shows floats up into the top edge of the display, the bottom pinned, the top narrowing and receding as focus and light fall away. Open it and the picture comes back down, tracking the hinge one to one. Needs a MacBook with a lid angle sensor, and can only be switched on there. Pick the filmed Duo pace or a quicker one, and preview the whole fold from Settings.

How to use it

1. Switch it on and close the lid: what the screen shows floats up into the top edge of the display as the lid comes down, the bottom pinned, the top narrowing and receding as focus and light fall away, then the display sleeps as usual.
2. Open the lid and the picture comes back down with it, at the pace of your hand on MacBooks with a hinge sensor.
3. Pick a tempo for the fold that plays on its own: Duo is the pace of Apple's iPhone Duo animation, Brisk and Quick are faster.

Tips

• Lid Fold requires a working lid angle sensor. Droppy checks for one before allowing it to be enabled. Turning Follow the lid off selects timed playback on a supported Mac; it does not remove the sensor requirement.
• Allow Screen Recording and the fold carries exactly what your screen showed. If permission or capture is unavailable, the fold is cancelled and the real display stays visible.
• Stop the lid part-way and the fold finishes on its own, so the screen is never left half folded while you work.
