PDF Compress

Deep PDF compression with Ghostscript

Compress PDFs to smaller file sizes using Ghostscript integration directly from Droppy. It keeps output quality balanced while producing consistent, reduced file sizes for sharing and uploading.

What it does

  • Preserves text & vector content
  • Deep image recompression
  • Font subsetting & deduplication
  • One-time Ghostscript install

How to use it

  1. Install Ghostscript once from this Droplet's page. It uses Homebrew, and the page tells you how to get Homebrew if you do not have it.
  2. Drop a PDF and it recompresses the images, subsets and deduplicates the fonts, and leaves the text and vectors alone.

Where it shows up

A scan that will actually send

A 40 MB scanned contract becomes a few megabytes, and the text in it is still selectable and still searchable.

Tips

  • This is a real recompression, not a re-print: text stays text, so the output is still a document rather than a stack of pictures.
  • Ghostscript can be uninstalled from the same page when you no longer want it on the machine.
